Tedy Bruschi is known as one of the fiercest and most resilient competitors that has ever played the game. Tedy was born in San Francisco and moved to Roseville at the age of 13. He attended Roseville High where he lettered in football, wrestling and track and field. Tedy was an All-Conference selection as a defensive tackle for the Roseville Tigers.  He landed a scholarship from the University of Arizona.  It was there that Tedy would become one of the best defensive football players in the country: being part of the famed Arizona “Desert Swarm” defense.  He was recognized as a consensus First Team All-American in 1994 and 1995. He was a 3-time First Team All-Pac 10 selection and won the Morris Trophy: honoring the conference’s best Defensive Lineman.  Overall, Tedy had 185 tackles, 74 for loses, and tied an NCAA Division 1 record with 52 sacks.

In 1996, Tedy was selected in the 3rd round of the NFL draft by the New England Patriots.  In1999, Tedy started every game at Outside Linebacker and recorded a career high of 138 tackles.  In 2002, he was named Defensive Captain.  During the next 3 years, Tedy was the leader of the defense on one of the most successful franchises in NFL history.

In 2005, just after the Pro Bowl, Tedy’s life was about to change.  He was taken to a hospital and diagnosed with a mild stroke.  He had a congenital heart defect and had to have heart surgery, leaving him with partial paralysis. After several months of rehabilitation, Tedy announced he would sit out the 2005 NFL season.  Yet, on October 30th, Tedy returned to the NFL, played against the Buffalo Bills and was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He was later named the 2005 NFL Comeback Player of the Year.  He went on to play three more years to cap off a stellar career.  He is the only player in NFL history to return four consecutive interceptions for touchdowns which ranks second in Patriots’ history.

Tedy Bruschi is a 3-time Super Bowl Champion, 2-time All-Pro selection, and won the prestigious Ed Block Courage Award on two different occasions.  In his 13 year pro career; all with the same team, he played in 189 games, made over 1,100 tackles , 30.5 quarterback sacks, 12 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles.  His career was filled with success at all levels and more importantly displayed a fiery and resilient attitude that everyone respects.

Tedy met is wife, Heidi, at the University of Arizona.  They married in 1997 and have three sons.  He wrote his book, “Never Give Up”, detailing his experience and recovery from his stoke.  He is a spokesperson for the American heart Association and founder of Tedy’s Team: a foundation for stroke research.  He is also an accomplished saxophonist and avid bowler, having once bowled a perfect 300 game.

Today, Tedy can be seen on ESPN displaying his knowledge and passion for the game as an NFL analyst.  He is truly one of the great competitors our area has ever seen.  A man who stands for many great things: integrity, passion, desire to succeed and overcoming all odds.

"The Sacramento area holds a special place in my heart. It's where I learned how to play football. I will forever be grateful for all of the wonderful teachers and coaches that helped me along the way at Roseville High School.  I am honored to be inducted into the Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame. I want all of my former teammates to accept this honor with me.  In my mind, we are all going in together."
