Jim Sochor turned one of smallest towns into a college football powerhouse. His UC Davis Aggies teams won a record 18 straight conference titles which was a national college football record at the time. In conference games under Sochor, the Aggies were 92–5. He had winning streaks of 41 and 38 in conference games. His UC Davis teams were the final poll leaders at the end of the regular season in 1983 and 1985.
He was Named national coach of the year in NCAA Division II in 1983. He was the coach of future NFL NFL quarterbacks Mike Moroski and, Sacramento Sports Hall of Fame Inductee, Ken O'Brien and kicker, Rolf Benirschke. He was also a mentor to several future Head Coaches including Dan Hawkins, Paul Hackett, Mike Bellotti, Chris Petersen and Bob Briggs.
Jim sadly passed away in November of 2015 at the age of 77. Jim was a legendary coach that put UC Davis on the college football map. His teams will always be remembered for being fundamentally sound that produced a great winning tradition. He will be known as the winningest college coach and leader of the most successful program in our area.
